RETINAL SCREENING PHOTOGRAPHY
As part of your eye exam, we at the office of Dr. Howard Kass, recommend a special diagnostic procedure called Retinal Photography. This procedure consists of taking a photograph of the back part (retina) of your eye. This is not an X-ray or an ultrasound procedure, and nothing will touch your eye. We are simply taking a picture and this is for patients of all ages, including your children.

This permanent record is very valuable in assessing the health of your eye presently, and safeguarding the health of your retina, optic nerve, macula, and blood vessels. It will also serve an initial point with which to compare as we follow your health in subsequent years. The pictures are taken in full color.
Medical
Retinal and Front Surface Photos are billable to Insurance where
applicable but only after a screening photo is taken and an eye (ocular)
disorder is identified.

| My office has a Pachymeter to measure corneal thickness necessary for you to achieve successful Lasik candidacy. I can help eliminate the guesswork in whether you are a good surgical candidate without making a long trip to Canada or elsewhere for your refractive surgery. Without this measurement your surgeon will not perform refractive surgery. |
| Good Health mandates that each and every member of your family has an Eye Health Examination Yearly. |
| I can not impress upon all Lasik patients that follow-up care is of equal importance as the surgery itself. |
| Do not neglect the importance of being seen after surgery. After surgery is when the complications begin, not before. |
| The Sands of Sahara (DLK) needs to be ruled out after refractive surgery. Make sure you schedule and keep all your post-op visits. |

Medication and Allergy NEWS:
| Zaditor and Patanol are available by prescription for those who suffer from seasonal allergies and their nasty symptoms. |
| Vigamox and Zymar, a 4th generation antibiotic is available for the treatment of Conjunctivitis and Anterior Segment Diseases. |
| Thera-Tears and Genteal are the wetting agents of choice for those has have chronic dry eyes. |
| Many OTC medications still work well for minor allergy symptoms until you can see your eye doctor for advise. |
| Check the pollen count in your area each day. This measurement is a direct indicator for ocular allergy symptoms. You may decide not to wear your contact lenses on the days when the pollen count is extremely high. |
DRY EYES:
| The # 1 complication from Lasik Surgery is Dry Eyes. |
| Ask Dr. Kass about Punctal Plugs and Punctal Occlusion if you suffer from Dry Eyes, either due to Age, Medical Condition or as a result of Refractive Surgery. |
| Punctal Plugs for Dry Eyes may be reimbursable by your Insurance Carrier. My office can check with your insurance carrier to verify your potential coverage. |
| Dry Eyes can be managed in most cases with proper care. |
| Lubricate, Lubricate, Lubricate is the word to remember. |
